MUSIC SERVICES

Deborah Pennington's musical career began in Huddersfield where she was principal clarinet of Kirklees Youth Symphony Orchestra, The highlight was playing Weber's 1st Clarinet Concerto in Kuopio, Finland.

 

In recent years, Deborah successfully completed the MA Performance programme at Leeds College of Music, where she studied clarinet with Colin Honour and performance with Lynn Dawson. Whilst there she was actively involved as first clarinet of the Symphony Orchestra, multi-clarinettist with the New Music Ensemble and a member of several chamber groups. She also gave many solo performances in the lunchtime concerts.

 

Orchestral experience includes: Leeds Sinfonia, Northern Wagner Orchestra, the Northern Concert Orchestra and the Pennine Symphony Orchestra. Deborah is also a regular member of the Phoenix Concert Band, playing first clarinet.

Caroline has been playing the flute since the age of 9 and the piccolo ever since her school band director said “we have a piccolo in the cupboard if you are interested”!

 

Caroline went from the school band room to playing for the West Sussex Youth Symphonic and currently plays with the White Rose Orchestra in West Yorkshire. In between she has played in various ensembles both at home and abroad.

 

Musical experience includes: Slinfold Concert Band: soloist and 1st flute/piccolo; Guildford Sinfonia: 1st flute/piccolo; Godalming Quintet: flute; Marchwood Orchestra: flute and piccolo; Shrewsbury Concert Band: flute; Foothills Pops Band USA: flute

 

Caroline currently works for Artforms and teaches flute (beginner to advanced) and music theory privately.

The Aire Ensemble is a classical trio led by clarinettist Deborah Pennington who is joined by flautist Caroline Lisk and pianist Yuko York.

Mata is one of several pianists associated with the Aire Ensemble and has performed regularly with the ensemble since 2010.

Yuko hails from Japan and has been learning piano since a very young age. She gained a degree in Music and Education in Japan and subsequently came to England where she studied for a Master of Arts in Piano Performance at Leeds College of Music under Julian Cima.

 

Her performance experience is large and varied. Highlights include performing Beethoven’s Emperor Concerto in Leeds and Mozart's Piano Concerto for 2 pianos in the USA. She is also an accomplished accompanist; amongst her many achievements are accompanying Mendelssohn's Violin Concerto and Beethoven’s Violin and Piano Sonata in G major. As a soloist she has performed Prokofiev Sonata No 6, Beethoven's Appassionata and works by Chopin, Liszt and many others.

Yuko is also a highly enthusiastic and motivated piano teacher who can provide tailored lessons, designed to meet the students’ diverse needs, whilst expanding their musical imagination. She is compassionate and inspiring, with an excellent knowledge of modern teaching methods which help to provide a well-rounded, enjoyable musical education. With first-class organisational and interpersonal skills, Yuko aims to cultivate a strong relationship with teachers, parents and students.

As well as performing and teaching, Deborah has organised charity concerts around Leeds and is now actively promoting The Aire Ensemble which she co-founded.  Deborah is also the founder of the Yorkshire Clarinet Ensemble for advanced clarinettists.

 

Music Services: Deborah is a very experienced and well established teacher.  She has worked for Artforms and Wakefield Music Services and now works for YMES (Yorkshire Music Education Service) alongside her thriving private music business. Deborah offers tuition in clarinet and saxophone (beginner to advanced), flute (beginner to grade 5), keyboard and piano (beginner to grade 3) and music theory. She also offers piano accompaniment for practical music exams up to grade 4.

Yuko offers piano lessons to children and adults from beginner to diploma levels.  She is also available for accompaniment for exams and performances.
